Welcome to the homepage of the Asian Languages and Cultures section of the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages. Now is the time to study the languages and cultures of Asia. For many, the reasons are practical: the vast size of Asia and its growing economic and political power. For others, the reasons are intellectual and moral: the world has become increasingly interconnected and interdependent, and the need to learn about alternate systems of value and beliefs and different traditions of aesthetic experience and literary expression has become more pressing.
Michigan State University offers various undergraduate degree and non-degree programs with a concentration on the study of the language and culture of China, Japan, India, and Korea. Year long and/or summer studies in China, Japan, India, and Korea also offer you opportunities to improve your proficiency in Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, and Korean and your knowledge of the rich traditions of Asian cultures in their native settings.
