New Director of CeLTA Appointed

Dr. Felix Kronenberg has been appointed Director of the Center for Language Teaching Advancement (CeLTA), effective August 16, 2018. He also will join the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian, and African Languages as a tenured Associate Professor in the German program.

Kronenberg comes to Michigan State University from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, where he served as an Associate Professor and Director of the Language Learning Center since 2009. Prior to that, he was at Pomona College, where he redesigned their Foreign Language Resource Center with a grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation.

As Director of CeLTA, Kronenberg will develop and implement a well-articulated vision that addresses the ways in which CeLTA can be a leader in supporting faculty in all language programs, and language learners in areas including instructional technologies, professional development, assessment needs, grant applications, and other types of academic support.

This work includes supporting and/or collaborating with the faculty in Romance and Classical Studies and Linguistics and Languages to develop joint initiatives that further the Center’s mission and advance the many programs including incorporating multicultural perspectives into teaching for 21st-century leadership.

Long, Dean of the College of Arts & Letters. “He has a wealth of experience leading language learning centers and programs and is an accomplished scholar. Dr. Felix Kronenberg

Kronenberg currently is President of the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALLT) and is an advisory board member of the Learning Spaces Collaboratory. He has served as the President of the SouthWest Association for Language Learning Technology, has been a fellow for the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education, has been a learning spaces and language center design consultant for various colleges and universities, and a keynote and plenary speaker at local, state, regional, national, and international conferences. 

He received his Ph.D. from the University of Regensburg (Germany) in 2008. His research and professional interests include physical, virtual, and hybrid learning spaces including both classroom and informal learning space design, language center design, digital storytelling, computer simulations/games and L2 acquisition, and blended learning.
