Welcome to the German Studies Program at Michigan State University!
The German Studies Program at MSU offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. We are committed to an inclusive model of German Studies that integrates the study of language, literature, and culture at all levels. The German faculty is nationally recognized for their contributions in the fields of literary, cultural, linguistic, and pedagogical scholarship. Our Mission Statement
Our undergraduate degree program integrates language instruction into all levels of the curriculum. We encourage students to combine their study of German language and culture with other fields, through the additional major or double degree options, or with Teacher Education as a disciplinary major or minor. Our third-year Business German sequence is of particular interest to many students. Four distinct Study Abroad options, as well as internship opportunities help students to immerse themselves in the language and culture in Germany for a summer, a semester, or a full academic year. Many funding opportunities exist to assist students who wish to study abroad.
Our graduate program offers both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. The intimacy of a small program allows faculty to be accessible to students while they study at a large research university. Students are encouraged to pursue inter- and cross-disciplinary programs and initiatives across campus.
Experience German outside the classroom! Join us for various activities throughout each semester, and on Tuesdays for the German Film Series, and Wednesdays for informal conversation at the Kaffeestunde. Additional special events are listed in the department calendar under 'Announcements'. Donating to the German Studies program
