German Studies: PhD in German Studies

The Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian, and African Languages at Michigan State University offers a doctoral program in German Studies that provides advanced training in the study and teaching of German literature and culture as well as the pedagogy of language teaching.

Unlike most graduate programs in German, our program integrates co-curricular activities and experiential learning to produce broadly engaged researchers, educators, and administrators for a new era. Academically, our program focuses on historical German Studies, identity and gender, and visual culture.

  • Refine the skills of literary and cultural interpretation and understand and interpret current research.
