He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Chicago. His primary research concerns turn-of-the-century literature and culture, and other research interests include Weimar cinema and recent multicultural literature and film in German. Currently, he is developing his dissertation—which investigates the intersection of modernist aesthetics and homoeroticism in four turn-of-the-century boarding school narratives—into a book-length project.
