George Peters' areas of specialization are nineteenth century literature and culture, in particular Heinrich Heine, late eighteenth century literature and culture as well as pedagogy and concerns of the profession. His publications include work on Goethe's West-östlicher Divan, Heine, and on concerns of the profession. He is active locally and nationally in teacher training and outreach activities. He served as co-director of the Deutsche Sommerschule in New Mexico and has been active in the AATG, ACTFL, and the MLA. Furthermore, he is working on issues of diversity in the profession. Currently he is researching in intersection of German, Jewish, and Russian cultures in Berlin. Since January 2006 he serves as Chair of the Department of Theatre.
