Cindy Walter, Academic Specialist

Cindy has been an academic advisor at MSU since 2004 and in the Linguistics and Languages Department since 2011. As former language major and study abroad student herself, she really enjoys working with students in the department. Cindy advises undergraduate students in the following majors and minors:

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • Cognitive Science Minor
  • German
  • Indian & S. Asian Languages & Cultures
  • Japanese
  • Korean Minor
  • Linguistics
  • Russian
  • TESOL Minor, (regular and teaching.)

Over her career in student services, Cindy has also worked in residence life, TRIO programs, study abroad and financial aid. Cindy volunteers with the International Friendship Program that matches MSU international students with American families and friends in the community. An adoptive parent, Cindy is active with adoption advocacy as well.

Ian Solheim, Advising Assistant

Ian went to Indiana University and double majored in English and German. He also studied abroad at the University of Freiburg in Germany. After graduation, he taught English as a Foreign Language while abroad for a whopping five years, first in Thailand, then in China. Now he has repatriated to earn an MA in TESOL at MSU. With his unique set of experiences both learning and teaching languages, he is excited to offer guidance to our department's minors. He is also a closet musician and has played guitar for seventeen years and counting.
