Tom Lovik teaches classes on German language and linguistics at the undergraduate and graduate level. These courses include Business German, Linguistic Analysis of Modern German, German Dialects and Tendencies in Modern German. He is the lead author with J. Douglas Guy and Monika Chavez of Vorsprung: A Communicative Introduction to German Language and Culture, 3rd Enhanced Ed. 2017 (Boston: Cengage). His current research focuses on the status of the German language, particularly teaching German as a foreign language. His research also examines current developments in the German language and the benefits of study abroad. He supervises German teaching assistants and coordinates the first-year German program and also trains undergraduate majors for teaching at the secondary level.
