Pia Banzhaf’s is currently completing her dissertation at Queen’s University, Canada, on the cognitive poetics of puppetry arts. Her transdisciplinary approach includes the exploration of anthropological aspects, empirical aesthetics, cognitive psychology, and the performance of puppetry arts. Her work has been supported by grants from SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Resource Council, Canada), the province of Ontario, UNIMA-Canada, and the Institut International de la Marionnette, France. She is founding member of the Newfoundland Puppet Collective.
Pia received her M.A. in German from Memorial University in Newfoundland. She majored in German linguistics and cultural anthropology of textile art at the University of Dortmund, Germany. She holds a teaching license from the state of North-Rhine Westphalia. Pia has taught German language and culture in first- and second-year at Memorial University, Queen’s University, and the University of Manitoba.
