TESOL MA Student

Salamatu was born and raised in a famous and historical city of Zaria in northern Nigeria. Zaria has one of the oldest institutions in West Africa “Ahmadu Bello University”.

She earned her B.A. from Central Michigan University in Organizational Administration, but her passion had always been in language, which is the reason why she assisted in the teaching of the most widely spoken language in West Africa at MSU for over thirteen years known as “Hausa”. Salamatu is a certified ACTFL ILR OPI Tester since 2015 in the Hausa language. She decided to pursue higher education to inspire the girls in West Africa, especially those in Northern Nigeria, who are not encouraged to seek higher Education, either due to lack of education in the family, culture, poverty and communal support. As a result of the low proficiency in English, Hausa girls are performing poorly in the English examinations, which is a required subject all students MUST pass in order to proceed to college. In addition, Salamatu enjoy gardening, cooking, walking and during her spare time, she makes natural soaps for fun.
