Sayako is a PhD student in Linguistics. Her research interests include phonology, phonetics, and sociolinguistics. For her dissertation, she is investigating the possible cues to word segmentation (both language-dependent cues and language-independent cues) for native Japanese and English speakers by using an artificial language learning paradigm. Another recent research project involves perception of vocalic outliers with presence of ongoing sound change.
