TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND GERMANIC, SLAVIC, ASIAN AND AFRICAN LANGUAGES

Note: Due to the uncertain economic and budgetary situation, there is a possibility that not all of these posted positions will be funded.

1. A curriculum vitae, not to exceed 5 pages, highlighting education background, relevant courses taken, teaching experience, publications, presentations, and any special awards received.
2. A cover sheet, which is available here. Please specify which courses you would like to teach.

Selected candidates may be asked to provide additional materials and/or be invited for interviews. Late applications will NOT be accepted.

DETAILS OF ANTICIPATED POSITIONS

GERMAN LANGUAGE COURSES
Undergraduate degree in German or the equivalent required.
Native or near-native fluency in German required.
Pre- or co-requisite: GRM 810 or ROM 803.
German teaching experience desirable.
Preference given to students enrolled in the MSU German Studies PhD program.

JAPANESE LANGUAGE COURSES
Native or near-native fluency in modern standard Japanese required.
Enrollment in MSU Linguistics PhD program preferred.
Foreign language teaching experience desirable.

CHINESE LANGUAGE COURSESNative or near-native fluency in modern standard Mandarin required.
Enrollment in MSU Linguistics PhD program preferred.
Foreign language teaching experience desirable.

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES IN THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES COURSES

IAH 231c: Language and Society (Spring semester only)
Enrollment in MSU Linguistics PhD program preferred.
Completion of LIN 424, 434, 471 (or equivalents) preferred.
Candidates must have good communication skills in English.

IAH 231c: Language and the Brain (Fall semester only)
Enrollment in MSU linguistics PhD program preferred.
Completion of LIN 424, 434, 455 or 855 (or equivalents) preferred.
Candidates must have good communication skills in English.

LINGUISTICS, LANGUAGES and CULTURE COURSES

LIN 200: Introduction to Language
Enrollment in MSU linguistics PhD program preferred.
Completion of LIN 424, 434, 824, 834 (or equivalents) preferred.
Candidates must have good communication skills in English.

LIN 225: Language and Gender
Enrollment in MSU linguistics PhD program preferred.
PhD students preferred.
Completion of LIN 424, 434, 471, 871 (or equivalents) preferred.
Candidates must have good communication skills in English.

LIN 291: Language and Animals (Spring 2015)
Enrollment in MSU linguistics PhD program preferred.
PhD students preferred.
Completion of LIN 424, 434, 824, 834 (or equivalents) preferred.

LIN 401: Introduction to Linguistics
Enrollment in MSU linguistics PhD program preferred.
Completion of LIN 424, 434, or equivalents required.
